Stan James World Matchplay
Posted 21/07/08

I lost out 10-8 at the Stan James World Matchplay today, against Dennis Priestley. The two-time World Champion needed to draw on his two decades of experience at the top level to battle back from an 8-5 deficit.
We were locked for the first half of the game, with a break of throw for Dennis to take a 4-2 lead, which I then matched to pull level. I then broke throw for a second time in leg nine to lead for the first time in the match, and double 16 put me into a 6-4 lead after winning four straight legs. Priestley replied in leg 11 on double ten, but missed the bullseye to square the match as double top put me 7-5 up. I then landed a second 180 of the game on my way to a three-leg cushion, but then I saw my chance to move a leg away from the win slip away when Priestley took out double eight to break my throw. I also hit another maximum in the next, but a 121 finish this time saw Priestley cut back to 8-7. A missed double eight for a 136 finish cost me in leg 16, with Priestley hitting double top to level and then the same bed to lead again at 9-8, whilst I was waiting on a finish. It was Priestley who landed a killer 180 in the next, giving him the breathing space to miss two match darts before returning for double four to progress to the last 16.

2008 Las Vegas Desert Classic Result
Posted 05/07/08

I lost out in the Quarter-Finals of the 2008 Las Vegas Desert Classic today against Phil taylor 11-4. I threatened a repeat of my victory over Taylor in last year's SkyBet World Grand Prix when I took a 3-1 lead against the three-time Desert Classic winner. However, Taylor hit back to lead 4-3 and then won seven successive legs to storm to victory.

I took the game's first two legs, with a 159 score setting up a double 16 finish in the opener before I took advantage of three misses from Taylor in the second. I also had a chance to lead 3-0, but missed double 18 before Taylor landed double ten to get off the mark. I then found double 18 to take leg four, but Taylor took the next three to edge in front, after I missed two darts at a double in the sixth. Double ten saw me pull level again at four-all, but Taylor found another gear to pull away, finding his range on the treble 20 to fire maximums in three successive legs. A 14-darter put him 5-4 up, and he followed that with a 104 finish to leave me behind, and three more legs saw him take a 9-4 advantage. I then missed double eight to hit back as Taylor moved a leg away from the win, and he booked his semi-final berth on double one.

"Adrian played really well," said Taylor. "He started superbly and was consistent early on.

"I'm a big fan of Adrian's," said Taylor. "He's very dedicated, works hard at his game and looks after himself. That will benefit him in the future."

2008 Las Vegas Desert Classic Latest
Posted 04/07/08

I have now reached the Quarter-Finals of the 2008 Las Vegas Desert Classic today after defeating Sam Rooney 8-3. I pulled clear from 2-2 to 5-2 with a flawless display of finishing, including a double 16 to break Rooney's throw in leg six and a double 18 in the next after my opponent had missed three darts at the same bed. Double 18 helped me break throw in the next to move 6-2 up, but my first misses of the match in leg nine allowed Rooney back in. I then produced a killer blow to take a 7-3 cushion, taking out a sensational 160 with Rooney sat on a finish. I then landed my third maximum of the game in the next to pull clear of Rooney, allowing for four misses at the double before sealing victory on double one.

My finishing was great and that proved the difference. I felt comfortable, especially on double 18, and I'm in confident mood.

I've got Phil next and I've beaten him before so he holds no fear for me, and I can go up there and enjoy it.

Posted 02/07/08

I am through to the last 16 of the 2008 Las Vegas Desert Classic today after defeating two time finalist, Wayne Mardle 6-4 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel. I took out finishes of 156 and 126, on the bullseye, in edging 3-2 ahead before a 96 checkout put me 5-2 clear. Mardle then landed double nine to stay in the game and stepped in after I missed three darts for the match in leg nine to hit double two and pull back to 5-4. However in the next leg I took my chance on double five o advance to the last 16.
I'm delighted, I took out some good finishes but I needed to because Wayne could have gone ahead 4-1. It's great to be through but I've always lost in the second round when I've qualified before so hopefully I can change that this week.

US Open 2008 - Last 16 Live on Nuts TV
Posted 17/05/08

I lost out to Dennis "The Menace" Priestley in the last 16, live on Nuts TV today. I started well claiming the first leg on double 16, but Dennis hit straight back, winning the second leg. I had a chance in the next, to claim the set, however, I suffered a bounce out when going for a 100 finish before Dennis took full advantage and won the first set. The next leg proved crucial as we both missed a clutch of doubles before Dennis hit double 2. I then struggled to find my form and Dennis went on to win the game 3-0 in sets.

First Round
This weekend I was in Connecticut for the 2008 US Open. I won my first round game without dropping a set, 3-0 against Cameron Paine.

Second Round
In the second round I came up against Robert Watson-Lang (Bobstar) for the third time in recent weeks. For the first three legs there was little I could do to stop him as he produced legs of 14, 13 & 15 to take a 1 set & 1 leg lead. However I managed to battle back to win the next two legs and level the match at 1-1. In the next set we both continued to play very well, however, I managed to hit what was probably the turning point in the game when I checked out a 144 finish with Bobstar waiting to pounce on 38. I won this set and played well to win the first leg of the final set. However, Bobstar hit straight back with a great 13 dart leg. I now needed the next leg for victory, Bobstar needing it to go to a final set. Bobstar managed to edge infront of me and was sitting on 36 when I managed to checkout on 124(treble 20, treble 14, double 11) for victory!

Last 64
This set me up with a board final match against Jason Clark. I started well but Jason took the first set 2-1 with the throw. The second set I thought I had won as I checked out on 84, only for the chalker to tell me I was actually on 86, Jason then took full advantage of this and took the leg with his next throw. This was very difficult to deal with and I struggled to get my head back on the game and lost the next leg also. This put me 2-0 down in sets and 1 leg away from being defeated. However I battled back strongly and won the set. In the next two sets, I continued to battle and took my chances when Jason failed to hit his doubles. I had come back from 2-0 & 1-0 down to defeat him 3-2!

Last 32
I now had just 1 more game to win to compete in Saturday's live TV finals. I was up against Dan Lauby who started very strongly claiming the first leg in 15 darts, whilst I was on a finish after just 12. I then played very well to win the second leg before Dan missed about 5 darts at double to win the set. I took full advantage and was now 1-0 up (in sets). We then both continued to score strongly, however, Dan continued to miss doubles and I went onto win the match 3-0 in sets.

Open Holland Masters Players Championship
Posted 27/0408

This weekend I reached the last 32 in Holland. I won my first round tie against Andreas Muller 3-0 in sets, before defeating Bryan De Hoog in the second round, by the same scoreline. This meant I had to face Andy Hamilton in the board final. This proved to be a very close game which went all the way. In the final set I took out 119 whilst Andy was on a double to claim the first leg, only for him to hit straight back and take the match into a deciding leg. I was on left on 78 with Andy waiting on a double. I hit the treble 18 with my first dart but wired the next 2 darts at double 12. Andy then hit his double to claim victory, winning the match 3-2 in sets.

I played well this weekend and reached the last 16 in Glasgow. In my first game I defeated Alan Caves 3-2 in sets, a game which went all the way to the final leg. In my second match (last 32), I was up against Kevin Painter. I made a great start to this game, finishing well and I was soon 2 sets up. I then continued to battle and actually had a few darts at double to win the match 3-0 in sets. Instead Kevin took advantage and then pulled it back to 2 sets each. In the final set I started well, winning the first leg only for Kevin to hit straight back. In the deciding leg we both scored well and struggled to hit the winning double, however, I managed to hold my nerve and finish on double 4. This win meant i had won my board and I now faced, Kevin McDine. The score was 1-1 in legs when Kevin hit a 12 dart leg to claim the first set. I hit straight back winning the second set but Kevin took the next 2 and went on to win the game 3-1.

I then faced James Keogh in the board final where i won 3-2 in a hard fought game which went to the final set, hitting a 167 checkout to win the match, whilst he was sitting on a double. This meant that i had won my board and put me into the last 16 where i faced the in form Alan Tabern. I played quite well, but missed doubles and lost 3-1 in sets.

In the second round, I defeated A. Albert 3-0 in sets without dropping a leg. This included a 120 checkout to win the match. I then came up against Carlos Rodriguez in the last 32. This proved to be another great game which again, went all the way. I won the first set and narrowly missed the bullseye on a 164 checkout to win the second set. With the score at 1-1 in sets, I then took advantage when Carlos missed his double and went 2-1 up. However, Carlos hit straight back levelling at 2 sets each. In the final set Carlos hit a 12 dart leg before I checked out on 118 to take the game to the final leg. I left myself double 18 but Carlos checked out to claim the match 3-2 in sets.
